MERRY CHRISTMAS 2010

Some people have been giving me grief about our blog—Good Gravy! It’s only been 10 months since the ice storm!

So here are a couple of shots from last night. We got about 4 inches of new snow and it made the lights look pretty. The bottom photo with snowflakes is a flash, the top picture is without.

The GREAT OKLAHOMA ICE STORM of 2010

Freezing rain began at 4am on Thursday morning. We sat in the RV and watched the ice build for a while. Small trees and branches started going down and we moved our vehicles to the picnic shelter. Then across the street, our neighbors took direct hits from big limbs, and whole medium-sized trees started breaking off. That's when we decided to jack down, unhook, and pull out into the street. This Mom and I did in driving rain and sleet.

The huge old bur oak trees, some 40 inches + in diameter started coming down. At 3pm we lost power for 24 hours. We had propand to run the fridge, hot water, stove and furnace. And we kept the RV batteries charged by runing the truck. We could not plug anything into a socket and we had no TV. We kept the water thawed. Others in the whole area of Oklahoma were not so lucky.

There is about one inch of ice on everything, and more on powerlines. When the power came on Friday afternoon, we were able to rig cords back to the power box and turn on the TV and Dish.

Mom says that everything looks worse that when the tornado went through our forest at the farm. Gabi stays comfortable wrapped up in blankets.

It's Sunday the 31st, cloudy and still way below freezing. Livi in Tulsa has had sunshine since Friday morning--but not us. There are still 4 counties and about 100,000 homes without power. We are having a great adventure, but are more than ready to see a little warm weather (what we thought we would get when we left Utah).

We did not take a regular camera, only a video camera, and I didn't realize how hard it was to clip good pics, with everyone in a few pictures, off a video. But here is an attempt. The pictures outside are at the Alburquerque Zoo. We invited Aunt Janet and Uncle Fred to New Mexico since they were doing Thanksgiving alone in Denver.
